Things on my heart, shows on my calendar
Thanks for reading!Dear Reader,
I’ve got a new song for you! A little something for your mid-week. (Maybe some of you stumbled upon it already, on Bandcamp or streaming… I released it quietly in July :)
I never really intended to record or release “Any Bell I See” — I originally wrote it as a song-gift for my friend Lindsay Lou. But then, my friend Steve Dawson (producer, engineer) asked me if I’d like to bring a song in for a special event at his recording studio. He occasionally gathers some students for an immersive experience behind-the-scenes to watch how songs go from just some chords on a guitar with a melody, to a full band recording! This seemed like a great song for the band he’d assembled that day.
And in addition to the instruments that you can actually hear on this song, I will always hear the eager and joyful silence of Steve’s students that day, leaning in and sitting right there in the room with us, witnessing the music unfold. Such a great memory!
It was also very fun to be introduced to some of Steve’s musician friends that day, and then immediately dive in to recording a song together. I was especially excited to play with Dave Jacques on bass — I recognized him from his many years of playing with John Prine.
You can listen to “Any Bell I See” here:
And some pictures from the session!

I’m also going to share this brand new interview with you. It’s a very honest conversation between me and a few of my closest collaborators — Ethan Jodziewicz, Joel Timmons, and Shelby Means. Maybe we can keep you company for an hour on your next long drive!
And as far as live music goes, here are all of my upcoming tour dates! If you’d like to catch a show, click on the city for more info + tickets. As most of you know, I’m running a small scale operation here. In the big music industry, I’m just a little roadside farm stand selling my sweet corn — and I like it that way! (It’s the Lancaster County PA girl in me:) All that to say, when you show up to directly support my music, whether that’s buying an album on Bandcamp, or inviting a friend along to my show, it truly means a lot!
Thanks for reading!
Kindly,
Maya
